We found a the sister mattress to this one in a store. It had a blue cover and no vent holes...usually for hospitals. We happened to check on-line and found this one. I called the manufacturer and they said that the white covered one was the SAME mattress, but intended for residential (and a little cheaper, but only due to the cover). The cover gets washed almost daily in a hospital and has to be able to hold up to that.

Ok, why this one over other foams? We liked the density, weight, price and vent holes.

Density--It has a high density (very firm) side for newborns and a lower density (little more give...softer) for toddlers. SIDS is a BIG concern these days and a BIG thing we parents can do is put newborns on a FIRM mattress.

Weight--Changing sheets in a crib is necessary to remove the mattress to do so. This is very lightweight and easy to remove. The snug fit in the crib is very necessary so your little one doesn't get a leg/arm caught down...
